In 2024 Portlanders voted using the ranked-choice method for the first time in history. No one had used the new ballots before. Volunteering with my friend, campaign consultant Ethan Krow, we designed a website, rankedchoicevoting.com, to explain to constituents how to fill out their ballots. Ethan’s decade-plus experience working in local politics helped guide the simplicity of my web design and infographics.

With other voter education campaigns explaining ranked-choice math and history, we created a finished product that could be parsed entirely in the voting booth. I conceived and produced a short, one-minute animated video guided by “Lenny Latte” that taught the process by example, ranking Portland’s favorite beverages.

Our site succinctly explained the difference between ranked-choice, and the past form of voting, showed examples of the new ballots, and directed viewers to outside sources to answer additional questions they might have.
